Announcements for March 14

  • Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday
Please remember to set your clocks forward one hour this Sunday, March 14.

  • Help Little Hands buy School Uniforms
As part of our ongoing effort to meet the Millennium Development Goals, Bishop Lee has challenged each Episcopalian in the Diocese of Chicago to purchase one school uniform for children in developing countries. The children in St. John’s Little Hands ministry are spearheading our parish effort. Our goal is 269 uniforms. Each uniform costs $12.00. Please check out the display in the undercroft. Or checks payable to St. John’s may be mailed to the parish office.

  • Episcopal Fish Fry, March 19
Next Friday, March 19, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew will be cooking up its second annual “Episcopal Fish Fry,” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the church undercroft. Now a fun, new tradition at St. John's, the annual Lenten meal claims to offer “all of the flavor, and none of the guilt” associated with the meatless fare served by some of our friendly church rivals. Now on sale in the church office, tickets are priced at $10 for adults, $7 for children, and $25 per family, and may be purchased in advance, or at the door. However, if you already know that you will likely attend, please alert the Brotherhood by March 17, so that we can be sure to order enough fresh fish for all. To place your order, see your nearest Brotherhood member.

  • Church Grounds Cleanup Day March 27
Spring cleanup of the church grounds on Saturday, March 27, 9:30 a.m. – noon, or whatever time you can give us. Raking and cleaning out of flower beds will be the focus. All are welcome!

  • Everyone is Invited to the Chrism Mass, March 27
On Saturday, March 27, Bishop Lee invites the people of the Diocese of Chicago to join together to celebrate the blessing of Chrism for use at Easter baptisms and throughout the coming year. “We will pray with particular focus for those who have come to faith in Jesus Christ and who are preparing to be baptized.” The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with a Christian formation event for all ages, “Anointing with the Spirit”, followed by the worship service. Cyndie Knoll and Donica Van Voorhees will lead a trip for anyone in our parish interested in attending. Youth are especially welcome. More details will follow. Please contact Cyndie or Donica if you are interested in attending.
